Entering Bhutan by road

There are three points of entry by road. The most preferred point of entry is from Phuntsholing (Chukha Dzongkhag), a border town in south western Bhutan that links with the Indian plains of West Bengal. This point of entry is 176 kilometers away from the capital city Thimphu, which is about 5 hour drive. The town is located approximately 170 kilometers east of the Indian National Airport Bagdogra. Tourist can also enter through Gelephu in south central and Samdrup Jongkhar in south eastern Bhutan that link with the Indian state of Assam. Samdrup Jongkhar is approximately 150 kilometers away from Guwahati International Airport. This route is preferable if travelers plan to explore eastern Bhutan.
